The Senior Technologist position within the R&D Systems Test & Automation (STA) Team will support a range of R&D new product development (NPD) activities including refining device design and developing mechanical test systems to verify product performance and reliability. This role requires hands-on expertise in mechanical design, building test fixtures/rigs, and conducting experiments with a focus on test automation. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in mechanical systems and instrumentation, along with experience in using LabVIEW for automating research and testing.
How you will make an impact:
- Assist R&D engineers in device development including rapidly prototyping designs, evaluating components and materials, troubleshooting failures, proposing and evaluating design improvements.
- Participate in new product development teams, partnering with engineers to provide ideas and suggestions to refine design concepts, develop test methodologies, and testing activities.
- Design, develop, and prototype custom electromechanical test equipment/fixtures/tooling and feasibility test methods tailored for R&D applications. May propose and implement improvements to existing test equipment and methods.
- Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts, or defined plans to perform testing, evaluation and trouble-shooting functions.
- Integrate sensors, load cells, strain gauges, and other instrumentation into test rigs for precise data acquisition.
- Configure data acquisition (DAQ) systems to monitor and collect data for mechanical properties such as force, pressure, displacement, and temperature.
- Perform and document complex design testing, troubleshooting of components, subassemblies, and materials. Draft technical documents such as assembly instructions and testing procedures.
What we look for: (Required)
- Associate’s (AA) or technical degree/certificate and at least 8 years of experience in a relevant scientific field, or a minimum of 10 years of related experience.
What else we look for: (Preferred)
- Strong experience in mechanical design, prototyping, fabrication, and test fixture development
- Solid troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electromechanical systems
- Ability to read and understand procedures, drawings, schematics, equipment manuals, specification sheets and to follow assembly instructions
- Hands-on experience with sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems
- Working experience of LabVIEW for test automation in R&D settings
- Experience in a development or testing environment with test instrumentation and data acquisition for pressure, flow, leak, tensile, thermal, vibration, fatigue is highly desirable
- Capability to quickly learn and interpret complex test systems is required
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member with minimal direction
- Effective communication and collaboration with the team is essential. Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
- Experience within the medical device or other regulated industry preferred

For California (CA), the base pay range for this position is $68,000 to $97,000 (highly experienced). The pay for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience).
