We are looking for an experienced and motivated Principal Engineer to join our Product Stewardship team at Becton Dickinson (BD). This is an exciting opportunity for a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to take ownership of product stewardship activities for our global portfolio in the Advanced Patient Monitoring (APM) business unit. We are looking for someone who is passionate about product material compliance and committed to driving excellence in product stewardship.
How you will make an impact:
Ensure BD APM product compliance with global regional specific restricted substance legislations, including: RoHS, REACH, EU MDR, EU POP, China RoHS, CA Prop 65, Conflict Minerals, and EPR (WEEE, Battery, Packaging).
Serve as BD APM business unit representative and provide guidance to stakeholders (e.g., Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Regulatory, Supply Chain, Sales, and Legal) on complex compliance objectives and ensure relevant regulations and products are met while applying best practices
Analyze material compliance regulations and legislative proposals to assess business impact to BD APM
Evaluate and support reporting of product material compliance information to applicable authorities
Support product material data management utilizing internal databases and tools.
Produce technical justifications to demonstrate patient safety for instances where materials are identified to contain restricted substances and partner with cross functional team to develop solutions
Acquire and retain in-depth knowledge of APM products in relation to product assembly, product functionality, patient contact level, and materials, down to the component level
Perform periodic compliance gap assessment for the APM Product Portfolio to address regulation updates, new product launches, and/or post-commercial material changes
Help develop, implement, improve upon an effective product stewardship program to ensure APM compliance with regulations and BD processes.
What you will need: (Required)
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or Scientific field with 6 years of industry experience OR
Master's Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, or Scientific field with 4 years of industry experience.
What else we look for: (Preferred)
Experience in product stewardship and material compliance regulations in Medical Device preferred; otherwise, experience with regulation interpretation and compliance
Experience with product bill of materials (BOM) and engineering drawings
Ability to work independently and as part of a large cross functional team
Strong verbal / written communication and interpersonal relationship skills, including negotiating and relationship management.
Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Experience with managing and utilizing databases
Strict attention to details

For California (CA) the base pay range for this position is $118,000 to $167,000 (highly experienced).
